A handwoven cushion, designed with varying shades of blue, orange and buttercup rectangles sits in the centre. It has a burnt orange boiled wool backing. In the foreground sit 3 cones of weaving yarn showing the thread used within the design. Alongside sits a wooden shuttle, a tool used to weave the fabric.
Two cushions sit on top of each other showing the front panel handwoven block design and the mustard boiled wool backing. There are also 3 cones of tarn in the background showing some of the blue, mustard and burnt orange threads used in the cushion’s design.
Two cushions stacked on top of each other on a sheep-skin rug. This picture shown the two different back panel colour ways available (mustard and burnt orange).

This collection was inspired by LEGO blocks and further influenced by architectural lines. I was first drawn to some burnt orange yarn and the colour palette evolved from there. The patterns were initially created in watercolours and via digital sketches before being adapted as suitable designs for use on the loom. The woven structure is a double weave cloth which means that to create the design two layers of cloth were woven at the same time with the layers constantly dipping over and under each other to build the final effect.

As an Autumn/Winter collection, fine wool was used in order to create a cosy, comforting textile to coorie in with. These cushions have a contrasting mustard or burnt orange boiled wool back to really set off the handwoven designs.

This very limited edition collection was lovingly handwoven in my East Lothian studio and there are only three cushions in this design available.

My fabric was expertly sewn into cushions by Kalopsia Collective (an ethical Edinburgh-based social enterprise micro-manufacturer) to ensure the you receive the highest quality product from Hopipola.
