Watercolour of Rug Design

In the initial stages of creating designs for my Autumn/Winter 2020 collection, I sketched a lot of my block design ideas in watercolour or on digital software. I really enjoy using paint to feel my way through potential colour ways in my woven designs and, as it is such an important part of my weaving process, I decided to produce two of my sketchbook ideas as final watercolour studies.

I love how I can capture a lightness and transparency with the watercolour which is somewhat unattainable when translated into a durable interior handwoven final product. And I am happy to be able to share some of my process directly with customers in this medium.
